Abstract

This study scrutinizes the strategic importance of ecotourism in bolstering the competitiveness of green investment in the Indonesian Capital City (IKN). Using the Partial Least Squares – Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method through SmartPLS, this study explores the causal relationship between latent variables represented by banking financial indicators (ROA, ROE), ecotourism performance (number of tourists, ecotourism ROI), and ESG portfolio indicators (ESG score, ESG mutual fund returns). The results demonstrate that ecotourism has a positive and significant effect on ESG portfolio optimization, as evidenced by the contribution of the number of tourists and ROI that can enhance the ESG score and the performance of sustainable financial instruments. Conversely, banking investments show a limited effect on ESG portfolio optimization, underscoring the need for a more robust integration of sustainability principles into banking practices in Indonesia. In conclusion, this study underscores the strategic importance of ecotourism in strengthening the competitiveness of green investment in IKN, and the necessity to bolster the banking sector's commitment to ESG policies. These insights offer practical implications for governments, regulators, and industry players in crafting more comprehensive sustainable development strategies.
